Comcast        Digital Local TV          DishTV

How do you choose?  Which one is the best?  How much per month?

We will attempt to answer these question and more and give you the Pros and Cons, so you can make an informed decision.

Alphabetical Order:

Comcast / Xfinity

Most of us refer to this service as Cable TV, which is accurate given the mode by which the signal is transmitted into your home...via cable.  Cable lines are either running below the streets in your community or overhead, and then connects to a switch, that services each of the homes/apartments in your neighborhood.  Cable is hardwired and less susceptible to shifts in the weather and/or aerial obstructions. However, cables do get old and degrade, which may cause fluctuations/interruptions in your service, but Comcast can make the necessary repairs when needed.

Pros:  Hard-wired, consistent picture quality, DVR & On-Demand features, streaming apps for your electronic devices, Pac-12 Network, NFL Red Zone

Cons:  Primarily available in densely populated areas.  Some have complained about poor customer service, but what we've found is that about 50-60% of the problems are due to poor communication at the Point-of-Sale,  not properly defining cost expectations, or a lack of technical understanding of how hardware (T.V. Computer, Cell Phone, etc.) connects to the cable feed and how to determine if the problem is external or internal.  We have discovered that patience and a willingness to learn will help alleviate most of the anguish and frustration when dealing with Technical Support.

Digital Local TV

Got a digital converter box?  Connect it to your television and then to a powered or standard antennae, and depending on where you live and the signal strength, you may get your Local Channels with occasional fuzz, blurriness and rolling lines.

Pros:  Free after purchasing the digital converter for about $50

Cons:  Do we really need to go into detail?

Dish Network

Affordable satellite television with a lot of bang for your buck.  You must allow for a satellite dish to be installed on your home or on a post/pole in your yard, directed toward the south-eastern sky.  If you live in an apartment complex or a community governed by a Home Owner's Association, you will need to provide written consent from the Owner, Management or the H.O.A.  The Hopper, the DishTV DVR is a very powerful offering, allowing you to watch recorded programming on up to six televisions when used with a Joey that compliments the Hopper.

DISH NETWORK LANDLORD PERMISSION FORM

Pros:  Cutting edge and not-so cutting edge technology.  Entry level programming starting at $19.99.  Pac-12, NFL Network and NFL Red Zone.  Dish-Latino.  Free HD for life packages.  Streaming apps for your electronic devices.  Available in rural areas.

Cons:   Satellite Television - Weather conditions or obstructions may interrupt or weaken your signal.  Joeys, which compliment the Hopper and allow for viewing on up to 6 units come at an additional cost per month. No NFL Sunday Ticket.  Some have complained about poor customer service, but what we've found is that about 50-60% of the problems are due to poor communication at the Point-of-Sale,  not properly defining cost expectations, or a lack of technical understanding of how hardware (T.V. Computer, Cell Phone, etc.) connects to the satellite feed and how to determine if the problem is external or internal.  We have discovered that patience and a willingness to learn will help alleviate most of the anguish and frustration when dealing with Technical Support.
